Intertech Flooring's Imhoff to Chair Regional Workforce Development Board
(November 20, 2006- AUSTIN, TEXAS): Bill Imhoff, president of full-service commercial flooring company Intertech Flooring in Austin and San Antonio, was inducted this month as chairman of the board of WorkSource, the Greater Austin Area Workforce Development Board.
Imhoff will chair the 27-member board of directors for the 2006-2007 fiscal year. The board comprises business, economic development, education, labor, community organization and public sector leaders. It is one of 28 workforce boards established by the Texas Legislature in 1995.
As WorkSource chairman, Imhoff will play a key leadership role in setting policy and directing a $35 million annual budget for workforce programs in the Central Texas area. As the region’s premier workforce board, WorkSource’s network of partners and providers offers a wide range of no- and low-cost employment solutions for employers and individuals including recruitment services, job search assistance, training, child care and educational initiatives.
“The Central Texas region has been fortunate to maintain historically low unemployment rates, primarily due to our diverse economic base,” said Imhoff. “It’s critical as a community that we continue to look to the future for continued job growth opportunities.”
Imhoff has been a longtime member of the WorkSource board, as well as an active proponent of workforce development. He chaired the Construction Sector of Austin @ Work in 1999; was on the Construction Steering Committee of the Capitol Area Training Foundation; and served on the North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Imhoff established an Intertech Flooring Apprenticeship Program which is the only program of its kind nationwide through which participants can receive an associate’s degree in applied sciences, as well as becoming journeymen installers.
“Too many promising high school graduates do not pursue further education because it is unaffordable. Yet, in today’s economy, jobs demand a highly skilled, highly educated workforce. As business leaders, we have to look for creative ways to not only attract the jobs, but ensure that we have skilled, educated employees to fill them,” said Imhoff. “I’m honored to have the opportunity to work with the talented WorkSource board and staff as we focus on those goals.”
