Intertech Flooring Wins National Design Competition
For Three Central Texas Projects

(May 27, 2004 - AUSTIN, TEXAS): Austin and San Antonio-based commercial flooring company Intertech Flooring, along with three area architecture/ interior design firms, took top honors in this year's national StarNet Design Awards.

StarNet, a national commercial flooring cooperative, awarded Honorable Mentions in the Large Corporate and Healthcare categories for Intertech's work on downtown San Antonio's One Stop Center, and on Christus Santa Rosa Hospital's 7th Floor Pediatric ICU unit, also in San Antonio. In addition, Intertech was recognized in the Unique Installation Challenge category for its work on the Sid Peterson Ambulatory Care Center in Kerrville.

Intertech's work was selected from more than 100 flooring projects nationwide. Sharing the awards with Intertech are MKS Associates/LKL (Santa Rosa project); RVK Associates (One Stop Center); and The Bower Downing Partnership (Sid Peterson Center).

In its sixth year, the StarNet competition recognizes outstanding creativity in flooring design and the innovative use of floor covering in commercial interiors. Projects are judged on their creative use of flooring, flooring design concept, special challenges and how well the design met client objectives. The awards were presented April 30 at StarNet's annual meeting at Amelia Island, Fla.

For the Christus Santa Rosa Hospital project, MKS Associates/LKL and Intertech employed a colorful and whimsical board game motif to the flooring design in the Pediatric ICU unit. Intertech chose Armstrong VCT, Medintech, Mannington VCT, Tarkett Optima and Roppe Base to provide an aesthetically pleasing and technologically advanced flooring solution.

RVK Associates and Intertech incorporated a "life-giving river" theme into the flooring design of One Stop Center in downtown San Antonio. Using Shaw Green with Envy Carpet tile, Mannington Essentials VCT and Johnsonite Rubber Cove Base, Intertech created a wave pattern that was carried throughout the flooring and other design elements.

Working closely with architect/designer The Bower Downing Partnership, Intertech Flooring conducted exhaustive testing and research to determine the best products and installation methods for the warm, humid indoor pool therapy area at Side Peterson Ambulatory Care Center. Intertech chose Altro Marine 20/Impressionist II for its slip resistant quality and seamless installation. To minimize disruption to patient care, installation was completed in less than three weeks.

San Antonio flooring company Intertech Flooring and architecture/interior design firm RVK Associates received Honorable Mention in the Large Corporate Category of StarNet's National Design Awards for their work on the One Stop Center in downtown San Antonio.

San Antonio's Christus Santa Rosa Hospital received honorable mention in the StarNet National Design Competition for its 7th floor pediatric ICU. Recognized for the design were architecture/interior design firm MKS Associates/LKL and commercial flooring company Intertech Flooring.

In the "Unique Installation Challenge" category, the StarNet National Design Awards recognized Intertech Flooring for its innovative solutions in the pool treatment areas of Kerrville's Sid Peterson Ambulatory Care Center. Architect/designer on the project was The Bower Downing Partnership.
